Before thinking about driveway replacement in Woodstock, educated homeowners are getting the facts before selecting a driveway contractor. Unfortunately, there are charlatans selling new driveways and over promising and under delivering. Even worse, some people are paying the contractor a down payment and the contractor disappeared with their money.

We interviewed Matt Cook, of Complete Concrete and Masonry and asked him what Cobb county homeowners can do to protect themselves and get what they pay for.

Mat said the first thing to look for is the details in the contract.

What does the concrete work include and, more importantly, exclude?

Maytt tells us, “Having Woodstock concrete contractors provide you a driveway replacement contract that says they will install a new concrete driveway for you is not enough,”

What does Matt mean?

He continues, “You must insist on getting a scope of work with your contract. Without a scope of work from the concrete contractors in Woodstock GA, there are too many unknown surprises for the homeowner later. It must be clearly defined and not vague at all.”

Why is a scope of work necessary?

Matt tells us, “Most people are not in the concrete business. They don’t know what to look for. All they want is a bottom dollar price. They really don’t care about quality of the concrete or how long it will last for. Because of this, to get the job some concrete installers will look to do it as cheaply as possible. So the homeowner thinks they got a “good deal.” Unforetunately, I get called in to repair bad concrete jobs. In the end people wind up paying twice for their driveay. It would have been cheaper in the long run to pay a little bit more for it to be done correctly.”

Can you give us an example of this?

Make sure your scope of work answers these questions before you sign on the dotted line.

  • Does the contract include clean up?
  • What are the payment terms?
  • Will they contact the Georgia Utilities Protection Center before starting work?
  • How thick will the concrete be?
  • What kind of sub-base will you use?
  • How many contraction joints will be installed?
  • How far apart will the contraction joints be?
  • How will the concrete be reinforced?
  • What kind of finish will be applied to the concrete when it is completed?
  • How high will my retaining wall be?
  • What PSI (Pounds Per Square Inch) will the concrete be?
  • What kind of mix will it be?
  • Does the contract include site prep work?re permit costs included?
  • Will it have the proper slope away from my house?

Why is it important to ask these questions?

Matt tells us, “You want to compare apples to apples and not apples to oranges when getting a concrete bid for your driveway replacement in Woodstock. This is the only way to understand what you are exactly getting. If you want to see the answers to these questions go to Completeconcreteandmasonry.com to download this free checklist.”
