As restaurant owners struggle to gain new customers in todays market, they depend mostly on a cloud with a dollar sign on it called the internet and social media.  Everyone is looking to reach and touch this cloud but it seems like a haze and a dream that is never attained.  If we look at how restaurants from the 1930’s to 1980’s made the same amount of volume as most of the restaurants we eat at today and how they did it, restaurant owners today will be shocked as how it was actually done.

Well, how did restaurants before the internet and social media hit record volume without it?  The answer is extremely simple, its building a REAL relationship with the customer, knowing their names, knowing their kids names, knowing what they do for work, following up with the customer as it is a primarly a sales position.  Good food is simply just not enough to bring a customer back again and again.  Calling the customers and inviting them back for a special dish, or a VIP discount, writing them a thank you letter signed by the owner personaly.

The internet and social media is not the answer it is just one of them, as a society we depend so much on the internet for so many things.  The more we take the human relationship out of the picture the less loyalty we will recieve from customers, see,  a restaurant must be looked at as a home and people are coming to your home everyday to have breakfest, lunch and dinner. if this was the case, you simply can’t target these people with a facebook ad to come back and have a meal at your home with a facebook ad or just an email, you call them and invite them back, they must be looked at as family, or friends because they are spending money in the restaurant everyday.

Restaurant owners need to build a cusotmer database and completely take digital out of the picture, and more human relationship, that is the ingredient to more revenue for any restaurant, that is how restaurants before the internet and social media managed to make the same amount of volume as many of the restaurants we eat at today.
