Abbey Road Studios, one of the world’s oldest and most innovative studios has come up with another initiative. This time, they have established their own center of learning – the Abbey Road Institute.
Abbey Road Studios has been in the music industry for so long that they have become one of the forefront experts in this field. The educational institute is a culmination of their acquired expertise and experience through the years.
The curriculum was developed by Abbey Road to address the growing needs for advanced music education in the industry. They are so proud to be able to offer this to the producers and engineers of Melbourne and within Australia as well.
The course they are currently offering is Advanced Diploma of Music Industry. This course can be taken full time or in a flexible study basis. The Full Time – Advanced Diploma of Music Engineering is taken for a 12-month period. This is for students who can solely focus on their studies within that time period.
For those who can’t commit to intense study for the whole year, they can choose the Flexible Study Advanced Diploma of Sound Engineering which allows students to take 2 or 3 modules of study per trimester. For comparison, the full-time course has4 modules of study per trimester.
Students who want to enter the program should have at least an AMEB grade two music theory qualification. If they have undertaken roles such as performer, producer, engineer, and so on – they can provide their own music portfolio.
Furthermore, they can also provide music qualifications they have acquired, their previous academic qualifications, and music industry experience. Regarding to what degree of experience and knowledge an applicant should have prior to submission, this is indicated in Abbey Road Institute’s page, “We encourage applications from a wide range of backgrounds and levels of experience.”
The goal after finishing the course is that the student will be proficient in varied audio production roles, both in musical and technical aspects. The student is expected to be more flexible, being able to carry different roles in the audio and recording industry.
