Start!, a newly launched provider of sports aids particularly curated for the pickleball community, proudly sponsored a Porta-Potty at Burning Man, the renowned week-long large-scale desert event that celebrates community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. The annual event is held in Black Rock City in northwestern Nevada, a 10 square mile temporary city erected app. 100 miles northeast of Reno. Rather than sponsoring one of the vaulted theme camps, Zero. Zero. Start! elected to provide a unique and engaging experience in the often overlooked but ubiquitous porta potty, delighting burners who visited with a pickleball-themed stall named the Ben JOHN.
One of the highlights of Burning Man is the vibrant and interactive environment it offers to its participants. Understanding the importance of enhancing the overall experience, Zero. Zero. Start! stepped in to sponsor one of the numerous porta potties on the playa. The Ben JOHN stall, located near 415 and J quickly became a favorite among those burners who used it, attracting attention and sparking conversations with its creative pickleball-themed décor.
Decked out with a pickleball net, paddles, night lights and pickleballs, the Ben JOHN stall added a playful and unexpected twist to the usual porta-potty experience. Quotes from renowned pickleball players such as Anna Leigh Waters, Ben Johns, and Riley Newman adorned the walls, keeping burners engaged and entertained while attending to their bodily functions.
As expected, the stall was met with giggles and enthusiasm by those burners who visited it. To maintain proper hygiene, the stall was sanitized throughout the day and burners were even provided with yellow toilet paper reminiscent of the pickleball.
“We wanted to do something meaningful, and thought that creating an experience in the rarely thought about porta potty might just do the trick,” explained the CEO of Zero. Zero. Start!, Ingrid-Joy Warrick. Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the world, boasting more than 30 million players currently. Warrick added, “The more we expose people to the sport, wherever they are, the more the sport will grow.”
As some campers exited the porta potties, they were met with a cold jumbo fresh dill pickle, to help keep the game’s namesake on their minds long after Burning Man was over.
