Zaha Hadid Architects to design new sports center in Hangzhou

Zaha Hadid Architects recently won the bid to build a new international sports center at the Future Sci-Tech Cultural Center in Yuhang district, Hangzhou.

The sports center is located at the central area of the Hangzhou Future Science and Technology City and borders West Wen’er Road in the north, Xianlin Port in the east, Linchang Port in the west, and Hemu Water Town in the south.

Spanning nearly 400 mu (26.7 hectares), the center will have a 60,000-seat football stadium that meets FIFA’s standards, a 19,000-seat football stadium that can host international competitions, an 800-seat swimming complex for district-level competitions, and other commercial supporting facilities.

The center is expected to become a new landmark of Hangzhou that will highlight the city’s unique charm.

Zaha Hadid architects is an independent studio founded in London by the late Iraqi-British architect who was known for her bold designs. Hadid’s most iconic works include the Beijing Daxing International Airport, Beijing Galaxy SOHO, Guangzhou Opera House, and the Dongdaemun Design Park Plaza in Seoul.
