World Punjabi Congress to Hold International Conference on Peace at Lahore, Invites Crowdfunding Donations

September 6, 2018 – Around 80 leading figures from art, literature and civil society from all over the world will come together at the soon to held ‘International Conference on Peace’, in Lahore, Pakistan. Organized by World Punjabi Congress, an NGO comprised of Pakistani and international writers, intellectuals, journalists and researchers working since 1986, the conference will be held in the first quarter of 2019, and welcomes funding through its Indiegogo campaign page.

The International Conference on Peace will host around 80 delegates from 52 countries, and 150 from Pakistan. These will be the most illustrious peace activists, scholars, educationists and literary figures, including representatives from organizations working for peace in Pakistan, and efforts are also being made to include Nobel laureates.

The event will act as a forum for developing diplomacy, reshaping the image and intellectual profile of Pakistan, spreading its art, culture and literature for peace, and sending out the message that Pakistan is committed to peace. The Conference will end with the Pakistan Peace Declaration as a mutually accepted document.

Pakistan is known all over for all the wrong reasons. With this Conference, we want to repudiate such wrongly perceived notions and bring out the soft, liberal and peaceful image of Pakistan. I appeal to the resourceful Punjabis, especially in Canada and North America, as well as everyone else to come forward for this cause,” said Fakhar Zaman, Chairman, World Punjabi Congress.

The International Conference on Peace is another step by the WPC to demonstrate that Pakistan is committed to the values of peace, harmony and a culture of tolerance. The Conference also aims to share the message of Sufism, and fight against extremism and intolerance by dispelling wrong notions associated with pseudo-religious propaganda.

Among its previous efforts, the ‘International Conference on Sufism and Peace’ was a 3-day event held in March 2010 in Islamabad, and was extremely successful in helping re-discover Pakistan as one of the liberal, progressive and peace-loving nations.

The funding campaign for the International Conference on Peace is titled “Give Peace a Chance with World Punjabi Congress”.
