The teaser trailer, released on December 20th by Digital Magic Entertainment, is accompanied by a musical track recorded by one of the film’s leading actresses, Katie Vincent. The song “Trouble is” will be one of many original songs featured in the film, which offers a healthy dose of Spaghetti Western themes and film noir elements, clashing in a uniquely stylized indie film.
The logline for Pickings reads: “When a short-tempered mobster and his gang of thugs try to shake down a neighborhood bar, they’re soon confronted with the wrath of its owner – a mysterious Southern mother with a dangerous past.”
Pickings was written, produced and directed by Usher Morgan, who self-funded the film after its Indiegogo campaign failed to reach its desired goal. Morgan, the filmmaker behind the award-winning comedy short Prego, entered production in March of 2016 a $350,000 budget. Principle photography was wrapped in October of 2016 and the film is currently being packaged and sent to film festivals nationwide. Pickings is Usher Morgan’s directorial debut.
Aside from Katie Vincent, the film also stars Elyse Price, Joel Bernard, Joe Trombino, Emil Ferzola and Yaron Urbas, among others. The R-rated “Pickings” will hit theaters in late 2017.
