Vision of Flight Invites Funding and Sponsorships to Make Aviation Careers Diverse and Exciting for Youth through Training Programs

Orlando, Florida – The aviation and aerospace industry offers bright careers in a vast range of occupations. However, it still falls short of expectations against criteria such as diversity and equal opportunity. Vision of Flight, the Orlando, Florida-based non-profit, is dedicated to introducing aviation careers to students, especially from minority backgrounds, through interactive programs and workshops. The organization is currently inviting private sponsorships and funding to create the next generation of aeronautical professionals.

There is today a global shortage of aviation professionals coming from diverse backgrounds, as well as presence of women and minorities. This calls for increasing exposure and imparting early training to the youth for the myriad careers available. Vision of Flight does this with its engagement programs such as the recently held Youth Aviation Workshop at the Orlando Executive Airport, which exposed children above 10 years old to ground school basics and interactive flight simulation. So far, over 10,000 kids have participated in Vision of Flight’s flight simulation sessions throughout the country.

Founded in 2012 by pilot Mike McKenzie, Vision of Flight focuses on careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) to meet job shortages. As a career awareness, training and development program, its programs rely on private sector funding to prepare students for careers in aviation. The program is also part of the Share Fair Nation’s STEMosphere, a nationwide tour that provides hands-on learning opportunities for students, and has partnered with the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for online coursework and hands-on training.

The organization seeks to acquire its first instructional aircraft which will enable VOF to serve more students, broadening our outreach to the South East Region of the USA. Having our own aircraft will also allow for a better cost management towards our post-secondary training opportunities.

“The aviation industry needs a big change in its demographics, especially when it comes to diversity. Through STEM education and youth training and development, we believe it is possible to make the sector attractive to today’s youth. Our fundraising campaign is geared towards buying an aircraft we call ‘Vision One’, which will allow children to learn the basics of airplanes and develop and early interest in aviation careers,” said Michael McKenzie, President & CEO, Vision of Flight.
