In 2015, United States exports totaled 1.39 billion USD, 4% over the previous year. From 2007 to 2015, the U.S. milled rice exports showed mixed dynamics. After a surge during the period from 2007 to 2009, U.S. exports displayed a downward trend. There was an annual decrease of -1.1% between 2009 and 2014.
The main destinations of U.S. milled rice exports in 2015 were Japan (20%), Haiti (14%), Canada (10%) and Colombia (9%). The share exported to Colombia increased (+8.5 percentage points), while the share sent to Canada illustrated negative dynamics (-1.2 percentage points) between 2007 and 2015.
From 2007 to 2015, the U.S. was a net exporter of semi- or wholly milled rice. However, on the whole, net U.S. exports of rice has shown a negative trend since 2011. In 2015 the industry ran a trade surplus of 661 million USD, approximately 48% of gross exports.
