Rather than playing the matches in South America, this new tournament is going to occur in ten different venues in the United States. It will include 16, rather than 12 teams, and will be seen in all parts of the world.
The tournament will feature a Group Stage using four different groups (A-D) that will compete and move on to the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Final match. In Group C is Mexico, Uruguay, Jamaica and Venezuela. Match #13 on June 9th, sees the Venezuelan team pairing off against Uruguay at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA.
Scoring is simple – the winner of each match receives three points, while a draw results in each team gaining a single point. Played in a round robin format, the Group Stage sends their first and second place winners into the Quarterfinals beginning June 16th in Seattle, WA.
The Venezuelan national football team, also called Los Llaneros by fans, is headed up by captain Tomas Rincon. The team reached the semifinals in the Copa of 2011. The Uruguayan national football team has won the Copa America and the World Cup, and is led by captain Diego Dodin.
Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA is home to the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, and also a popular place for Major League Soccer contests. The very first event hosted in the venue was in 2003 with a soccer club match between Manchester United and Barcelona, and it recently hosted the final match of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
