UK – 22 January, 2026 – Phonely is warning UK mobile users about a growing SMS phishing campaign impersonating EE, designed to steal mobile account login details.
The scam message claims recipients have reward points about to expire and urges them to click a link to redeem them. The link directs users to a fake website created to harvest login credentials and personal information.
This tactic, known as smishing, relies on urgency and brand impersonation to pressure users into acting quickly without checking whether the message is genuine.
Phonely has identified multiple reports of the message appearing across the UK, suggesting a coordinated campaign rather than isolated attempts.
Phonely advises the public to take the following steps:

Never click links in unsolicited reward or account messages

Check website addresses carefully. For example: official EE links use ee.co.uk

Forward suspicious texts to 7726 to report them

Change passwords immediately if any details were entered
