Twig: The Medical Translation Database has proudly announced that it is now building an all-new and remarkable medical translation wiki for migrants and refugees worldwide. Founded by a former medical translator, Bradley Dalton-Oates, Twig is a UK-based charity that will create a medical translation database where translations are created by a community of volunteer bilingual medical professionals.
The idea for Twig came when Bradley noted that migrant patients in Italy were often offered translations in English or French, not their native languages. In cases where the patient did not speak a ‘popular’ language, sometimes no translator could be found at all. Similar situations are becoming more and more common in medical settings throughout the world every day. Twig believes that information access in healthcare is a Human Rights issue, and that every patient should receive information in the language that is closest to them.
To introduce this remarkable new translation database to the world, Twig has recently launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The campaign will raise funds for a final programming sprint to finish building its platform. Twig will be useful to a wide range of medical professionals, including physicians, nurses, midwives, dentists, physical therapists, psychologists, and many other industry professionals.
The Kickstarter Campaign is located on the web at:
www.kickstarter.com/projects/twigcare/build-a-medical-translation-wiki-for-migrants-and-refugees and backers from around the world can become a part of this project by making generous pledges and donations. All funds raised through this Kickstarter campaign will play a major role in the development of this inspiring medical translation platform: the goal of this campaign is to raise a sum of GBP 4000. Furthermore, the organization is offering several great rewards for the backers, and more details are available on the Kickstarter campaign of this project.
