Xi’an,Shaaxi, China – September 1, 2026 – Southeastern coastal regions of the Indochina Peninsula hold abundant bauxite reserves. In recent years, with strong government support, the aluminum production chain has grown rapidly, with large volumes of alumina exported to neighboring countries. XL Company has been deeply engaged in the local aluminum industry for decades. It not only owns extensive bauxite mining areas but has also built its own alumina refinery, achieving a full-chain operation from bauxite mining to alumina export. Across every segment of the business, one link is indispensable — Truck transportation.
Bauxite Transportation
In 2023, XL operated over 100 large dump trucks shuttling between the mining site and the refinery to transport bauxite. However, management had long been plagued by the limitations of these dump trucks. Due to local regulations, conventional 6×4 dump trucks could only carry around 10 tons per trip. The 70-tonne offset-cab Mining Dump Trucks already in service were too bulky for on-site operations at the mine, and had excess capacity. It was not until the second half of 2024 that the SHACMAN team, after conducting thorough field research, presented XL with a new transportation solution.
To deliver vehicles to mining fleets quickly and at high quality, the SHACMAN team chose an offset-cab Mining Dump Truck, settling on a 50-tonne model that balances maneuverability and payload capacity. Equipped with a 420-hp engine, mining-grade tires, mining-duty rear suspension, and a triple-layer frame, the truck delivers outstanding heavy-load capability. The first five prototypes won strong customer recognition upon trial, and the customer immediately placed a follow-up order for 50 units.
Alumina Transportation
Once the bauxite reached the refinery and was processed into alumina, tractors were needed to haul it 200 kilometers to the seaport. However, strict GCW (Gross Combination Weight) restrictions on semi-trailer tractors meant that XL’s existing fleet of 70 units could only carry 34 bags of alumina (34 tons) per trip.
The SHACMAN team calculated that each additional bag of alumina loaded per trip adds US$15 in revenue. Making lightweight design the top priority and taking into account the well-paved roads and short-to-medium-haul routes, the team decisively opted for the X5000 lightweight tractor. With an aluminum fuel tank, a flat-roof cab, and the removal of the radiator guard, single-trip payload was raised to 36 bags of alumina, adding US$5,400 in annual per-vehicle revenue. Meanwhile, the lightweight body paired with the latest-generation M10 engine delivers an average fuel consumption of just 30.5 L/100 km on loaded-outbound, empty-return trips with a gross combination weight exceeding 50 tonnes—saving 9 L per 100 km versus mainstream competitors. The I-Brake engine brake also handles the 10-km downhill sections on the daily route with ease, effectively reducing the risk of brake overheating.
