THE U.K. INDIE-MUSIC DOC, ‘TEENAGE SUPERSTARS’ HAS ARRIVED TO U.S. SHORES

“TEENAGE SUPERSTARS // TRICOAST ENTERTAINMENT”
Grant McPhee’s 10-years-in-the-making ‘TEENAGE SUPERSTARS’ digs back into the ‘80s and ‘90s music vaults, revealing the true stores behind some of Scotland’s biggest artists of the era.

Los Angeles, CA, August 14, 2018 – “Arriving on U.S. shores in the new U.K. indie-music documentary ‘TEENAGE SUPERSTARS’,” writes JP’s Music Blog.

Director Grant McPhee’s second installment of the “Sound of Young Scotland” series picks up where BIG BOLD DEAM: INFATING THAT MAINSTREAM” left off, as Alan Horne’s small-lived yet significant label, Postcard Records, imploded, leaving the mid ‘80s – early ‘90s Glasgow music scene without a label.

Scotland’s previous music scene had been saturated and influenced by the wave of Scottish-indie and alternative pop music of Orange Juice, Scars, and The Human League from labels, Postcard Records and FAST Product. Consequently, Glasgow’s music scene radically changed into a new era of rebellion as the punk genre was revitalized with independent music. Artists of this time even utilized their image to showcase the radical change in Glasgow’s music scene by un-tucking their once tidy shirts and refusing to sign with any label – no matter how big or large. This unity of artists with passion for new and different music lead to the emergence of new alternative pop music, including, The Pastels, the Vaselines, BMX Bandits, The Soup Dragons, Jesus and Mary Chain and Teenage Fanclub.

TEENAGE SUPERSTARS “showcases the drive and passions in these groups with nostalgic live footage of the bands flashing across the screen,” wrote JP’s Music Blog.

Narrated by Kim Deal (The Pixies), TEENAGE SUPERSTARS embarks on the influential wave of Scottish indie guitar acts that emerged from Glasgow in the late 80’s that has shaped and impacted the music world universally. McPhee’s second installment in “Sound of Young Scotland” series highlights The Pastel’s Stephen “Pastel” McRobbie’s creation of the label 53rd & 3rd alongside Sandy McLean. The label created universal music success by signing the Vaselines (Frances McKee and Eugene Kelly), the Shop Assistants, and releasing records from BMX Bandits.

TEENAGE SUPERSTARS “gives you the stories first hand from those involved and how each band admired the other, as they all strived to be better than each other,” observed JP’s Music Blog.

Through archived footage and interviews from today’s prominent music members, TEENAGE SUPERSTARS provides truthful insight into the development, success and significance of artists of the new punk genre rebellion. Featuring riots at London Poly, BMX Bandits performing on Argyle Street, and Jesus and Mary Chain’sBobby Gillespie who later joined Primal Scream, “One of the best moments in the film is when Nirvana played the Reading Festival and Eugene Kelly from the Vaselines is called out on stage to sing along with Kurt Cobain,” highlighted JP’s Music Blog.

TEENAGE SUPERSTARS had its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2017, receiving two prestigious nominations for Best Documentary Feature Film and Audience Award. Bursting with new interviews, rare archive, untold stories along with some of the most amazingly difficult, scratchy, noisy, genius pop music ever given to the world, TEENAGE SUPERSTARS is now streaming online U.S. video on demand platforms.
