ENCINO, CA – December 7, 2022 – A Los Angeles based Pickleball store, The Pickleball Exchange is rewriting the rules of customer engagement with their winning approach to customer service.
Touted as having Los Angeles’ Largest Pickleball Selections, The Pickleball Exchange offers a wide selection of products – from pickleball paddles for beginners and shoes to apparel and accessories from a range of brands such as Selkirk, Joola, Engage and more. But it’s not the variety of pickleball products for beginners and experts that gives this retailer the winning edge. It’s the outstanding customer service that has also led to the store becoming the top pickleball retailer in the country by volume, despite operating from a very small store.
Launched in 2020, The Pickleball Exchange has established a reputation for its unique demo sessions. These sessions can be booked online or by calling the store and range between 30 minutes to an hour. The consultations takes into account the customer’s sports background, history of injuries (if any) and offers expert insight and demonstration of the variety of paddles by hitting balls with the customer on the store’s indoor demo court. Far from the average store employees driven by quotas, The Pickleball Exchange’s employees are also pickleball enthusiasts who are trained in the technology and science of pickleball. They are guided by the store’s policy to never upsell and treat everyone with respect.
The Pickleball Exchange’s outstanding customer services is attested by its perfect five star rating on Google Reviews. The store has become a favorite of not just locals but also celebrities and Pickleball enthusiasts traveling from outside the state. One customer, Tim H. summed up his experience at the store. He said” I’m a brand new player and I had an awesome experience at the store. The staff was super patient and let me test out 4-5 paddles on their in-store court until I found exactly what I needed. No pressure, no upsell, no hardsell. Now, I have a paddle that I love.
But what makes The Pickleball Exchange an authority on pickleball equipment? Owner and former competitive tennis player, Joey, boasts almost two decades of experience working in the consumer products industry. He has worked to help many popular brand design paddles. When asked about his motivation for opening the store he explained: “I had just lost my corporate job and with the stress of it all, I needed something for my personal mental health. I wanted to come to a place of work where everything just makes me happy. My tennis reps had told me to get into pickleball but I never took it seriously until I saw two kids playing an exciting game of singles at a local park. I thought to myself, this looks like something I can do. This looks fun. So then I purchased a net and a few paddles and messed around inside our half built store prior to our grand opening. The original plan was to open a tennis equipment shop but I fell onto pickleball prior to opening and head over heels for the sport.”
Opening a store during the pandemic did not look like a feasible decision at the time, but what Joey discovered was a community of pickleball players who were delighted to have a store in Encino. His passion is now is driven by protecting the community that kept the store alive through the pandemic. Since opening he’s seen stores across the country adapt his model.
According to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association, Pickleball, which was founded in the 1960s is the fastest growing sport with almost 5 million players worldwide. Its popularity grew within the last four years and exploded during the pandemic when people had a lot of time on their hands.
And the game is poised to get even bigger as The Pickleball Exchange will be partnering with USA Pickleball to promote the game at the LA FitExpo at the LA Convention Center on January 14th and 15th. Preparations are also in full swing to launch hs Flagship store inside Los Angeles’ first Pickleball Country Club in 2023. According to Joey, “The store will be in one of the largest and most luxurious dedicated pickleball facilities in the United States.”
