The Motherland House Concerts and Sizije collaborate to host “The Banin Experience”

Cameroonian-born talented entertainer of The Motherland House Concerts partner with Sizije to bring Africa to the world through “The Banin Experience”

The Motherland House Concert is a house concert that showcases live original African music, spoken word, art and real-life stories from African artists in an intimate and interactive setting. The 2019 edition of the event tagged “The Banin Experience” is organized by Myra Maimoh Music, Motherland House Concerts and Sizije and is scheduled to take place on the 6th and 7th of September at The Brix Apartment, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.

The goal of Motherland House Concerts is to bridge the cultural divide between Africans and the community, while empowering Africans to integrate, fully participate and contribute in growing the economy. Over the years, the African culture and community have received a lot of attention from Africans across the globe, as different bodies look to promote the rich cultural heritage of the Black race. Unfortunately, there is still a lot to be done particularly when it comes to telling the African story the way it should – by Africans. This is where Mirabel Umenei and her team at The Motherland House Concerts are looking to change the narrative with support from other well-meaning institutions.

“We have to tell our own stories or others will tell their version of our stories,” said Mirabel Umenei.

The Motherland House Concert is particularly unique as it showcases a combination of African musicians and poets, different African music genres, real-life stories from 3 different African countries in every house concert thereby, painting a real picture of Africa’s diversity.

The Banin Experience – “A culinary, musical and literary journey to Africa,” continues in the tradition of The Motherland House Concerts by offering attendees a 3-course dinner paired with wines, music, poetry and storytelling from Africa. Consequently, attendees get to enjoy the different aspect of the rich African culture in an unprecedented way. The Motherland House Concert also offers a safe space for the audience to interact with the artists, ask questions and to get immersed in Africa’s cultural diversity.

Tickets to the event are available on EventBrite for the 6th and 7th of September, 2019.
