The Concierge Medical Practices Reach New Markets

Driven by health care reforms in the United States more and more physicians are opting for a different approach to their medical practices. The confusion over Medicare and Medicare laws relating to private practices is confusing to some doctors. Many thousands of doctors have already opted out of Medicare. Patients have reaches a fork in the road not knowing which to choose. Some doctors are also undecided.

Peninsula Concierge Medical Practices, customized and independent, were only available to the wealthy at one time. A patient of means couldpick up the phone and call for immediate assistance or in many cases a dedicated physician could even be a resident. Today with more and more doctors opting out of Medicare, more and more patients are subscribing to their services. Doctors who have opted out of Medicare can still have tests and other medical information provided by ”contracted in” doctors who then can claim from Medicare. They are able to make referrals to other doctors in a similar way, for example, a specialist physician can be consulted by a concierge doctor for assistance with a patient.

It should be noted that before a physician can opt-out of the Medicare system he or she must advise all patients in writing of their proposed action. This physician according to law must file an affidavit within 10 days of accepting a private patient contract. An opted-out physician is not permitted to make a new contract with Medicare even in an urgent or emergency situation. However, the physician who has decided to opt out of Medicare can claim for emergency services from Medicare, but is treated as a Non-Participating physician, thereby only receiving the allowances available to such physicians.

From a patient’s point of view, the service offered by the Peninsula concierge doctor is wonderful. These services range from house calls, nutrition and fitness advice, care for diabetics to the care of cholesterol problems in patients and many more.  Once contracted to one of these practices, a patient can literally make a call anytime of the day or night and the doctor will “be on their doorstep” so to speak. A patient has a 24-hour 7 day a week access to medical care. Even more in the patient’s favor is that the physician can get to know a patient on a one-on-one basis. This means a lot especially toelderly patients requiring special care. Quick and easy prescriptions for medication, sometimes forgotten until well after hours, can be obtained whenever he or she needs the medication, at any time of the day or night.

There are definite benefits of being treated by a concierge doctor, and although the patient, which may consist of a family with any number of children, must remember that the fees charged by a concierge doctor are not limited. A typical fee paid for a concierge physician can start at $80 per month and go all the way up to $25,000 annually. Some physicians charge a flat fee which includes house visits etc. Insurance companies will accept fees from a concierge doctor depending on the sort of cover the patient and associated family have with them. There is a growing demand for primary care doctors and it is seriously estimated that by 2020, there will be 45,000 physicians running their practices this way. The choice of healthcare is fast becoming a choice for the type of service required. Make a choice today!
