Tech Leader Michael A. Holker Talks UX Design and Putting Users First

How can businesses improve customer satisfaction and loyalty? User Experience (UX) designers work to bridge the gap between people and technology by helping improve the performance and convenience of a product and their interactions with them. User experience does not exclude the emotions of the customer. Both rational and emotional sides are important to developing a great product. The psychology of human interaction and design is what ignited Micheal Holker with his passion for helping build innovative but easy, customer-friendly products for everyone.

Michael Holker is a top UX leader and product designer, collaborating with agencies, and freelance projects, from all over the world. Products Michael has helped create are HolidayPirates, Europe’s fastest-growing travel company, and Resoluut, one of the most successful design agencies in the Netherlands. With over ten years of experience, Michael Holker is an expert at working to create insight-led, human-centered products, and weighs in on some of the biggest challenges that come with being and becoming an acknowledged UX designer.

Being successful in the UX design industry is being able to focus on how to improve a customer’s day-to-day life. A good UX designer pays attention to the behavior of people. Today, we have the accessibility to pay a bill or book a flight directly through our phones. It is essential for a UX designer to understand the role of an app or website in people’s everyday lives. The probability of users returning to a product is directly dependent on how user-friendly the experience was to the customer. The real challenge with UX design is to find the right balance between consistency and innovation.

Micheal stresses simplicity here to be successful, “Naturally, it is exciting to try something new and get creative. But the truth is, we don’t want to get wowed every time we are opening an app or website.” The focus should be on the people who use the product, not just the people who make them. This takes being able to be an active listener to your customer. The best UX designers are empathetic to not only the aesthetic and technical design of a product but the emotional experience.

Micheal Holker is highly motivated by his passion for people and problem-solving. His art school background has always made him comfortable with working on User Interface (UI) and design but his understanding of and sensitivity towards inclusive user-friendliness is what powers his success in UX design.
