Houston, TX – 19 Jun, 2017 – MRE Consulting, Ltd., has raised more than $113,000 to help fund critical research and other programs conducted by the National MS Society. Team MRE’s annual fundraiser, held this year April 29 to April 30, supports the National MS Society South Central Chapter. MS, or multiple sclerosis, is a disease of the central nervous system.
The 2017 cycling event from Houston to Austin adds to the more than $1 million Team MRE has raised over 15 years, earning the company the honor of being inducted into the National MS Society’s Circle of Distinction.
MREcyclists accomplished another successful ride this year, with the help of employees, family, friends, and clients– along with perfect cycling weather.The funds will be used to support cutting-edge research, programs, and services, all of which will go towards finding a cure for multiple sclerosis and supporting the National MS Society.

“When Sylvia Lawry started the MS movement in 1946 with the founding of the National MS Society, research into multiple sclerosis was almost non-existent. The disease took years to diagnose, and there were no therapies proven to slow the course of MS.
Things have changed. Decades of research into MS and the basic workings of the immune and nervous systems have built a critical platform of knowledge now serving as a springboard for progress. The Society’s $974 million research investment has fueled many of these advances, and today’s picture looks different for many:
There are therapies specifically approved for treating and managing MS, and more potential MS therapies in development today than at any other time in history.
MS is more quickly diagnosed, enabling early and sustained therapy to slow disease activity.
There is much greater awareness of the many symptoms of MS and ways to address them to improve quality of life.
Scientists are making breakthroughs in identifying risk factors that can increase a person’s susceptibility to MS, which will help lead to ways to prevent the disease.”

More than 2.5 million people suffer from MS worldwide, with approximately 400,000 of them living in the United States. Unfortunately, 200 new cases of this central nervous system condition are diagnosed each week, making the National MS Society a critical lifeline.
