Synchrono Impacts Industrial Engineers with Demand Driven Visibility

Synchrono, a leader in Demand-Driven Manufacturing synchronizing technology, was the chosen solution for Wenger Manufacturing, an engineer-to-order manufacturer headquartered in Sabetha, Kansas. Wenger specializes in commercial extrusion systems, including industrial dryers, toasting ovens and mixers for the grain and food processing industries. Wenger adopted the Synchrono demand-driven manufacturing method and synchronization technology to reduce cycle time and increase production capacity to meet growing customer demand. The resulting case study was described in the August issue of ISE magazine, titled, “Production Automation Gets IEs off the Shop Floor.”

The goal of Wenger’s industrial engineering team was to gain greater control; and balance the often-changing dynamics of their ETO environment to ensure rapid, predictable customer deliveries. To achieve this, Wenger implemented Synchrono SyncManufacturing planning, scheduling and execution software which also easily integrated with the company’s ERP (enterprise resource planning) system.

Wenger found that SyncManufacturing software, now in effect for four years, included a patented scheduling algorithm that automatically establishes the optimal production rate based on the capacity of the constraints in the environment – and releases work into production accordingly, enabling end-to-end production flow. The results were impressive:

  • On-time delivery increased from 40% to over 95%
  • WIP reduction of 15% in first few months
  • Reduced stock outs of stocked parts by 25%
