Kinya Claiborne is the founder and editor-in-chief of STYLE & SOCIETY Magazine where she oversees the core magazine and digital across all platforms. A style influencer, TV host, entrepreneur, media maven and lifestyle expert with a major passion for all things communications-driven, she launched the Los Angeles-based online publication as a platform to celebrate the best of entertainment, fashion, lifestyle, travel, food, and red carpet events globally.

A media maven with more than 15 years of experience, Kinya Claiborne began her career working within radio, TV news and print publications before transitioning into corporate communications, and later launched STYLE & SOCIETY in November 2013. Kinya earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications from California State University, Sacramento, and is a native Californian residing in Los Angeles.

An Interview with Kinya Claiborne

To better understand the success of this great company, Media Coverage has asked some questions to STYLE & SOCIETY Creator and Influencer Kinya Claiborne.

Q: What differentiates STYLE & SOCIETY Magazine from competitors?

A: After the first year of launching Style & Society Magazine, I expanded into video as an extension of the platform launching The StyleList, a TV series delivering the latest fashion, trends, travel, and pop culture in a fast-paced and entertaining format for the multicultural millennial. I served as TV host and co-executive producer with Watch ONX, completing 3 seasons and 46 diverse episodes of content including news, entertainment, and lifestyle programming.

As a black content creator, what separates me from other influencers is the diversity of my content. Whereas most creators focus on a niche, my photo and video content instagram reaches across multiple verticals including lifestyle, entertainment, fashion, travel, food, beauty and events. As a multifaceted entrepreneur, I balance the day-to-day of managing STYLE & SOCIETY Magazine, digital across all platforms and work daily with brands as an influencer content creator on multi-million dollar campaigns.

Q: What problems STYLE & SOCIETY Magazine solves?

A: After two decades of working in corporate America, I noticed a lack of diversity within media, so I created STYLE & SOCIETY Magazine as a creative outlet to share the things I was passionate about with the world and spotlight diversity within fashion, lifestyle, travel, food, beauty and events.

The STYLE & SOCIETY brand recently launched STYLE & SOCIETY Group, a boutique media consulting agency. In celebration of women empowerment and opportunities for black and minority content creators, the agency provides strategic communications, community relations, event planning, creative services, and digital marketing services to help empower brands and influence communities.

Q: What Are Your Biggest Accomplishments as an Influencer and Content Creator?

A: As a black content creator and style influencer, I love traveling the globe working with brands and tourism boards on special events, editorial coverage and influencer programs across fashion, entertainment, lifestyle and travel. My greatest accomplishment is creating content for some of my favorite brands including Revolve, Estee Lauder, Dunkin Donuts, Macy’s, Secret Deodorant, CVS, Thailand Tourism, Bumble, Television Academy, Lifetime TV, Southwest Airlines, Qatar Airways, Nike, Marriott and many more!

I was nominated for the Los Angeles Business Journal (LABJ) Fashion Award in the Influencer/ Trendsetter category honoring top individuals who drive tremendous economic growth in Los Angeles. Additionally, I was nominated for the Los Angeles Business Journal (LABJ) Entrepreneur of the Year Award, honoring achievements by powerful women who make a difference throughout Los Angeles.
