More and more of Missouri’s practicing physicians are turning to entrepreneurism and the opportunity to cure thousands or hundreds of thousands of patients rather than one at a time. In seeking to foster this phenomenon, Dr. Henry Randall launched the St. Louis Chapter of Society of Physician Entrepreneur (SoPE), which serves the entire state.

St. Louis, MO – August 8, 2016 – Henry B. Randall, MD, FACS, world-renowned transplant surgeon and notable speaker, is pleased to announce the St. Louis launch of the latest Chapter of The Society of Physician Entrepreneurs (SoPE), a global organization that fosters healthcare, life science and biomedical innovation.

According to Dr. Randall, there is a sizable gap between innovative medical professionals, entrepreneurs, developers and potential partners that has hampered commercialization of their great ideas. Dr. Randall is publicly inviting the region’s community of entrepreneurs, developers, investors, start-ups and accelerator groups to join the SoPE St. Louis chapter to help close the gap and build this significant industry sector.

In relocating from Kansas City to St. Louis, Dr. Randall, Director of Abdominal Transplantation at Saint Louis University & Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center, discovered an untapped population of private practice, academic and community-based medical professionals with an abundance of healthcare-related innovations.

The Missouri chapter of SoPE seeks to close that gap by proving a platform for biomedical and healthcare entrepreneurs to connect and collaborate with those that can champion healthcare innovations. Dr. Randall is in the process of developing a network of professionals that can provide education, connections, experience and funding opportunities necessary to commercialize its members’ ideas, inventions and discoveries.

According to Dr. Randall, “The St. Louis entrepreneurial environment is incredibly robust and inviting, but is missing a critical component for commercializing healthcare innovation. In leading the St. Louis chapter of SoPE, my mandate will be to assemble the necessary components for encouraging investment and support for new therapies and approaches, including drugs, devices, diagnostic tools, vaccines, digital health products, and business process innovations in Missouri.”

In addition to meetings, the St. Louis chapter of SoPE is planning large-scale events for fostering idea exchanges, networking, uncovering funding alternatives, mentoring and avenues for launching new businesses focused on healthcare innovation throughout the State.
