Singer Dental, a dentist in Ajax, Ontario, has revealed its special COVID-19 safety measures have been a huge success for patients attending post lockdown appointments.
The community dentist clinic has implemented a special booking system and safety protocol in its facility in Ajax to reassure patients of the importance of their safety. The measures aim to prevent or reduce the spread of the virus to patients or staff.
A spokesman from Singer Dental said that despite the strict procedures, they were determined to make sure the top-quality care that it gives its patients was not compromised.
“We have introduced an in-depth screen questionnaire when people are booking and confirming appointments. Payments will be taken in advance to ensure there is no unnecessary waiting in our reception and to allow a contactless system. And we are using tele-dentistry and video conferencing extensively to help us to assess patients on a case by case basis and limit the number of people having to come into the clinic.
“We will also be carrying out screening questionnaires and temperature checks with all of their staff upon arrival. We will be encouraging working from home as much as possible to reduce the number of staff on site. We will have barrier guards on reception, and we will be asking people to stay in their cars or in the plaza outside our clinic until we are ready to take them directly to their appointments. We will text when we are ready to take them into the treatment rooms.
“All patients will undergo temperature testing upon arrival and they will be asked to use hand sanitizer and wash their hands before and after their treatment.
“Patients will wear a mask until they are ready to be treated and the dentist will allow them to use an anti-viral mouth rinse prior to treatment.
“We have taken every measure we possibly can to ensure that everyone’s safety is an absolute priority. But it is really important to us that we don’t compromise the great service that our staff and dentists give to our patients and we hope that despite the measures, our patients feel they are still receiving that gold standard service.”
The clinic is booking longer appointment times and more time between appointments to allow for adequate distancing between patients. Staff will be expected to wear increased protective equipment to ensure their own safety and to help patients feel safe. This will include face shields, masks, gowns and head covers. The management team have also implemented enhanced cleaning and disinfecting procedures.
