Sheena Wichary Launches Indiegogo Campaign to Produce The Edinburgh Seven

The Edinburgh Seven is a documentary feature celebrating seven extraordinary women: This documentary celebrates the story of Sophia Jex-Blake and six other women who discovered how dangerous the medical establishment felt them to be when they set out in 1869 to pursue the study of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh.

In 1869, the University of Edinburgh was the first to open its doors to women. Women’s motives in striving to practice as doctors was also considered suspect and potentially dangerous.

These seven women proved to be personally and intellectually equal to the demands of the discipline, but hostility reached crisis point when the women arrived at Surgeon’s Hall, Edinburgh to sit an exam. Their route was blocked by a horde of over two hundred students.

The documentary will be filmed entirely in Scotland with a Scottish crew.  Half of the cost of this documentary feature will be covered by the $10,000 raised through this campaign.  If contribution goals are not met, all donations will be refunded.

The Indiegogo campaign, located on the web at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-edinburgh-seven-history , includes rewards ranging from $20 for a premiere ticket to the film, to $250 for a supporting actor or actress role, to $1000 for an executive producer title.
