Los Angeles, CA – June 18, 2018 –
“Genuine adrenaline,” – BRWC’s Dan Sareen on ‘THE CREW’.
TriCoast Entertainment will bring award-winning Russian writer-director Nikolay Lebedev’s (‘Legend No. 19’, ‘The Star’) disaster film ‘THE CREW’ to VOD platforms on June 26th.
Fired from Russia’s military service and aircraft school, Alexey Gushchin (Danila Kozlovsky) gets a job as a trainee with a commercial airline alongside his crew commander, Leonid Zinchenko (Vladimir Mashkov) and co-pilot, Alexandra (Agne Grudyte). “Everything seems to be picking up for [Alexey], until the plane he is on receives a distress signal from a nearby island. A volcano has erupted, all the inhabitants need to be evacuated, and Alexey’s plane is the only aircraft in range,” summarized BRWC’s Dan Sareen. But, to execute the rescue mission successfully by landing safely and evacuating the survivors, this flight crew must learn to work together to fulfill their courageous, selfless roles as pilots and put their differences aside.
‘THE CREW’ has “genuine adrenaline in the action sequences,” raved Sareen in the team’s “efforts to rescue everyone [from] blocked runways, damaged aircraft, trapped victims.” As the second-ever catastrophe film shot in the Russian Federation, ‘THE CREW’ is a contemporary remake of Alexander Mitta’s 1979 Russian film, ‘Air Crew’, a film loved by Lebedev as a child and one of the Soviet era’s most successful commercially pictures. Utilizing two planes, the Tupolev Tu-204SM (RA-64151 board) and decommissioned Tupolev Tu-154 of Kosmos Airlines (RA-85796 board), Lebedev’s film produces spectacular and elevated VFX graphics and GFI stunts. “The effects are well done, and portions of the film are just as stimulating as any Western, city-destroying example of disaster-porn. Visually, the film bounces pleasingly between the dark of the sky and the orange of fire, but what is truly impressive is the sound design,” appaulded Sareen.
‘THE CREW’ stands out for its deep drive diving into the catastrophe of its characters’ emotions. “Vladimir Mashkov keeps dialogue heavy scenes alive with his portrayal of captain Zinchenko,” wrote Sareen. He noted, “Focusing on Zinchenko’s relationship with his son, who is unfortunately along for the ride; as well as various attempts to flesh out the victims – one man struggles to tell a young child that his mother hasn’t made it, whilst a woman worries about the last thing she said to her family.”
Incredibly successful worldwide, ‘THE CREW’ grossed about $23 million in Russia alone, was Russia’s best-performing homegrown film of 2016, has remained the third top-grossing movie in Russia overall, and was awarded seven prestigious wins at the 2017 APKIT Awards. Thanks to the performances, cinematography and economical edit, ‘THE CREW’ is one joy ride you won’t want to miss. ‘THE CREW will be available on U.S. VOD platforms June 25th.
‘THE CREW’ featuring an authentic and fantastic Russian cast with “wonderful performances” by Danila Kozlovsky, Vladimir Mashkov (‘Mission: Impossible’, ‘Daddy’), and Lithuanian actress, Agne Grudyte (‘Nyukhach’, ‘Single Valentine’). Alongside, supports Sergey Gazarov (‘Revizor’, ‘12’), Katerina Shiptsa (‘Metro’, ‘Project’, ‘Gemini’), Sergey Shakurov (‘Brezhnev’, ‘Velikaya’) and Sergey Romanovich (‘Pitch’).
