April 10th, 2018 – Florida, USA – Henderson Haven Inc., a non-profit organization run by Lee and Sherri Henderson for people with special needs is proud to announce the release of their self help book, PICTURE MEMORIES which was recently only available directly through the organization, to retail outlets by July 1st, 2018.
PICTURE MEMORIES was borne out of the author’s zeal to educate and guide families and individuals with special needs to ensure they are given the full opportunity to live full lives of choice and inclusion. The book offers a simple explanation of the progression and effects of Alzheimer’s and other dementia conditions that have become a growing issue among those with developmental disabilities in general; but especially to those with Down Syndrome. Picture Memories was written to help families explain this condition in a simple and caring way for anyone to understand. It is currently available in hardback and will be available as an eBook as well.
The inspiration for the organization and the book is the eldest son of the Hendersons who has Down Syndrome, and was recently diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s at age 28. To help him understand what this meant and what to expect, Sherri Henderson wrote a story for him which later became PICTURE MEMORIES. After seeing this simple explanation, his doctors felt it could be a great help for other individuals with similar needs.
As the Brown family, who have benefitted from the organization’s specialised training service and advocacy put it, ‘They are helping him find the things he can do instead of the things he can’t! Henderson Haven Inc. really understands the needs of individuals with special needs.’
The book is a new venture for the organization and Lee and Sherri promise to continue learning as they go, with the hope to publish more books that would make life a lot more comfortable and easier for people with special needs and those caring for them.
