Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay Brings A Community Together during National Rebuilding Month in April

Residents from Lealman will receive much-needed repairs on their homes

National Rebuilding Day for the Tampa Bay Area is April 30, 2022

What: Repairing homes for members of the community who are Veterans, have been impacted by the pandemic, and have been community members for over 40 years. With the help of sponsors, partners, and over 75 volunteers, Rebuilding Together will turn these houses into safe and healthy homes. For 20 years, this organization has been helping those in need of home repairs that otherwise would not be able to afford it. This event will provide exterior painting, landscaping, door replacements, and minor repair work to four homes, roof replacements to three houses, and the neighborhood will receive supplies and smoke detectors.

When: Saturday, April 30, 2022, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Where: 3875 54th Ave. N. St. Petersburg, FL 33714

Why: Safe and Healthy Housing is the foundation of Rebuilding Together’s home repair work, targeting significant safety and health hazards based on the Eight Principles of Healthy Homes: keep it dry, clean, pest-free, safe, contaminant-free, well-ventilated, maintained, and thermally controlled. Today, Rebuilding Together has grown into a premier non-profit community revitalization organization. Together, with their corporate and community partners, they will repair homes, revitalize communities and rebuild lives. Rebuilding Together’s local affiliates and nearly 100,000 volunteers complete about 10,000 rebuild projects nationwide each year.

Who: Julie and Joseph Perry are Veterans and have been married for over 20 years. They both have endured some pretty significant challenges throughout their time together. The couple had a child abducted in 2002, soon after Mr. Perry had a massive heart attack that left him in ICU for nearly six months. He is now disabled and unable to work; Mrs. Perry is their sole earner. They were awarded custody of their nephew, who suffers from an autoimmune disorder that often leads him to hospital care. The family will be receiving a roof, a new front door, and an exterior painting.

Sharon Boardwine is a first-time homeowner; she has lived in her house for about five years and lost her job due to the pandemic. Her mother recently passed away, leaving her alone to take care of the home. She will be receiving fresh exterior paint and a new door that will make her feel more secure living alone.

Theodore and Carol Zuppa’s family has lived in their home for over 40 years. They raised a son here, who joined the Army in 2000 and is stationed in Virginia. Theodore’s father was a 5 Star General and a legendary member of the American Legion Post 104. Theodore himself is disabled and unable to stand or walk for long periods. The family will be receiving a new roof.
