Project Graduation Helps Students Celebrate Big Day Safely

In the Amphitheater School District, graduation is an accomplishment worth celebrating in a big way. Thanks to community leaders and volunteers, graduates from each of the District’s three high schools can have the time of their lives on graduation night, without worrying about their safety.

Project Graduation is the brainchild of parents, school leadership and law enforcement. Thanks to the program, which provides over-the-top parties on campus on graduation night, more than 13,000 graduates have been kept safe for 15 years. Law enforcement has had no incidents reported associated with graduation in that time. Those are impressive statistics given that graduation night is considered one of the deadliest times for young people across the nation.

So what does Project Grad look like? Each year, Ironwood Ridge, Canyon del Oro and Amphitheater High School students pick a theme for their big night. Volunteers spend weeks making those themes come to life with decorations, games, inflatables, prizes, booths, food and music.

Students enter after graduation and celebrate all night, leaving as the sun rises and they embark on the next steps of their lives.

Examples of past themes include “Carnival in Rio,” “Around the World in 8 Hours,” and Golden Age of Hollywood.”

Project Graduation participates in fundraising year-round to sponsor the events and provide tickets to students who can not afford them. From donating to volunteering, parents and the community can all get involved to help students get a safe start to their bright futures. Learn more about volunteer opportunities by clicking here!
