Award honors Espinoza’s global impact in bringing innovative health solutions to communities

Kansas City, MO – Pedro David Espinoza, Peruvian-American entrepreneur, investor, author, and Founder & CEO of Pan Peru USA and PDE Ventures, has been awarded The 2025 National Healthcare Service Award by INMED (Institute for International Medicine), which recognizes leaders who demonstrate uncommon dedication and endurance in improving health outcomes in underserved communities worldwide. Espinoza received this award for his leadership to empower Peruvian female entrepreneurs via Pan Peru.

Dr. Nicholas Comninellis, Founder and CEO of the INMED Institute, emphasized the spirit of the recognition: “Many healthcare professionals within their own nations are sacrificing personal comfort to care for their neglected neighbors. The INMED National Healthcare Service Award recognizes role models who provide care for their own people.”

Espinoza has dedicated his career to empowering women and children in rural Peru through access to education, entrepreneurship, and sustainable infrastructure. Under his leadership, Pan Peru USA has supported over 100 female entrepreneurs, built 12 modern libraries, created nine computer labs, developed three water reservoirs, and provided STEM education to more than 10,000 children. The organization has also reforested 15,000 trees in the Andes region, efforts that have directly impacted health equality in Peru. Environmental projects like planting trees help reduce air pollution and respiratory illnesses, while water reservoirs improve sanitation and access to clean water. Pan Peru’s educational libraries also enforce proper hygiene, teaching kids the importance of washing their hands, measures that dramatically reduce infection rates and support lifelong health.

Pedro has always been passionate about health, with many doctors in his family and his mom, who has been battling Parkinson’s for the last fifteen years. In 2024, he joined the board of directors of Melzi Surgical, an FDA-approved medical device company that finds lost sharps and needles in human bodies during surgery. As an investor and board director, Pedro has supported Melzi’s mission to make surgery safer and faster. The Series A company has raised over $10 million to date and is helping democratize surgical care through its innovations, aligning perfectly with Pedro’s vision of using entrepreneurship as a vehicle to improve global health outcomes.

Reflecting on receiving the 2025 INMED International Medicine Award, Espinoza credited his family for sparking the vision that guides his work. “This honor belongs to my family, who first inspired me to give back to our hometown in Peru. From clean water reservoirs to reforestation projects that improve health, and from supporting safer surgeries with Melzi to expanding care with Praava Health, this award reflects the health impact we’ve been building together. It motivates me to keep empowering women, supporting children, and advancing health equity in underserved communities.”

Beyond Peru, Pedro’s impact extends globally. He is an early investor in Praava Health, the largest outpatient medical system in Bangladesh. By supporting Praava, Pedro has contributed to expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare in a country where millions face barriers to medical treatment.

He also serves as a board member, investor, and former Chief Marketing Officer for Ever Medical Technologies, one of the fastest-growing electronic medical record (EMR) companies in Southeast Asia. Based in Thailand, Ever’s blockchain-based EMR system has helped hospitals in Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and other countries securely modernize their healthcare infrastructure. By reducing inefficiencies and improving patient record security, Ever Medical is empowering healthcare providers in resource-limited regions to deliver higher-quality care.

Espinoza also frequently contributes to leading media publications, where he writes about how entrepreneurship, one rooted in purpose and equity, can drive social change. For instance, his most recent article for USA Today, titled “Entrepreneurship for Good,” reinforces his dual commitment to innovation and inclusion.

A globally recognized change-maker, Espinoza is the author of the books “Differences That Make a Difference” and “The Real ROI: Return on Inclusion,” both of which feature insights from global leaders, including healthcare CEOs, medical doctors, and executives in the life sciences sector. He is a sought-after speaker, having addressed audiences at TEDx, Microsoft, Google, and the World Intellectual Property Organization. His accolades include recognition from the Silicon Valley Business Journal as a 2021 Latinx Business Leadership Honoree and inclusion in the 2024 Silicon Valley 40 Under 40 list.
