The Paraxylene market is also known as P-Xylene market is an aromatic hydrocarbon. It is one of the 3 isomers of dimethylbenzene, popularly known as xylene. Para solvent indicates that the 2 methyl groups in paraxylene occupy the diametrically opposite substituent positions 1 and 4.
Paraxylene changes from orthoxylene and metaxylene based on the replacement pattern of the 2 methyl groups. Paraxylene is a colorless, volatile liquid and a very important raw material in the preparation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) chips. PTA is a white, solid organic compound and principally used as a precursor to the polyester PET but other uses are in the making of cyclohexanedimethanol, terephthaloyl chloride, plasticisers, and liquid crystal polymers. The production of PET is largely dominated by PTA than DMT, since the production via PTA is more economical.
