From 2011 to 2015, U.S. organic blueberry imports showed steady growth, amounting to 8,399 thousand USD in 2015. There was an annual increase of +30.2% throughout the analyzed period.
According to IndexBox estimates, Chile continued to dominate in the U.S. organic blueberry market by a large margin. In 2015, Chile’s organic blueberry imports totaled 4,628 thousand USD, which accounted for a 55% share in terms of U.S. imports. Argentina, Canada, and Mexico captured the rest of the organic blueberry import market, with a 45% combined share of total organic imports.
Mexico (+131.1% per year) and Argentina (+72.9% per year) were the fastest growing exporters of organic blueberries to the U.S. from 2011 to 2015. Argentina significantly strengthened its position in terms of U.S. organic blueberry imports, growing its share from 12% in 2011 to 37% in 2015.
Import prices for organic blueberries grew by 10.4% annually from 2011 to 2015. The highest annual rates were recorded in Chile (+14.4%), while Mexico’s prices declined over the same period (-30.1%).
The average import price for organic blueberries was 7.17 USD per kg in 2015. Import prices varied considerably by country of origin. Argentina (8.52 USD/kg) was a high priced country of origin, while Canada (6.24 USD/kg) and Mexico (1.59 USD/kg) were among the lowest.
