On March 13th, 2020 Governor Gary Herbert announced a “school dismissal” order in Utah due to the Coronavirus. This directive caused students to continue their education at home with lessons created by teachers and delivered through various resources. On April 14th the order was extended through the end of the 2019-2020 school year. During these unprecedented and unstable times, Ogden School District is doing all it can to help provide students with the support that they need to finish out the school year strong. The swift response of the district to the new challenges and issues that have arisen have helped students and teachers to continue to connect and engage with one another successfully.
Ogden School District has made the transition to distance learning for students by providing specific plans for them to continue their education at home. The District is continually communicating with parents and students in order to keep schools and the families well informed. These actions help keep the District’s students and employees safe and engaged so that students continue to learn and employees continue to earn. The District is also providing mental and emotional support to students and staff with resources and information for maintaining healthy habits and promoting mental wellness.
Working to keep students physically well, the district is providing free meals to all children in the community up to the age of 18 by using a drive-through, grab and go, pick up style. Breakfast and lunch are served at multiple schools throughout the district between 8:30 am and 12:00 pm. Children do not need to attend a school in the district to receive the meals.
Ogden School District is also working to help students celebrate their accomplishments with the community. The District has scheduled virtual graduation ceremonies for the Ben Lomond High School and Ogden High School class of 2020.
