As of August 1, more than 2,500 lawsuits were pending, according to the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation. The Northern District of California has even established a public webpage to provide updates “due to the level of interest in this case.” The court describes the litigation as involving claims that Uber failed to implement adequate safety precautions, with plaintiffs alleging negligence, breach of contract, and product liability.

While thousands of victims have already filed, Dr. Oberheiden notes that the true number of affected passengers is likely far greater. “Many victims have not yet come forward, but they still have time to do so as long as the statute of limitations has not expired.”
