Newfoundland, Canada – May 3, 2017 – Spirit of Newfoundland begins an epic summer celebration of their 20-year history with a brand-new summer show in their rotation of 10 original Spirit of Newfoundland productions. The new most-buzzed-about Broadway Musical “Come From Away” received seven Tony nominations this week, proving that culture is cool.

They are a true builder of culture, celebrating all that is wacky and wonderful about their community, preserving authentic NL folksongs and offering year-round employment to the province’s best and beloved performers. Spirit of Newfoundland has produced more than 85 shows and hired more than 300 performers over the years and run other businesses from making the most delicious screech cake on earth to running a café on the renowned Signal Hill.
NOW, the company is embarking on a 20th anniversary party with events, shows and so much more. Spirit of Newfoundland brings back its past and present performers for an EPIC variety show August 24th and 25th, THE BIG SPIRIT REUNION GALA in aid of the historic Masonic Theatre.
Spirit of Newfoundland has released two albums, received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for 3 of their main performers, multiple international awards, including the City of St. John’s Event of the Year (twice) and tourism awards from Trip Advisor. They’ve also exported talent, with several of their alumni now working in the performing arts all over the world. Broadway performer Petrina Bromley says she learned a great deal from her time at Spirit of Newfoundland. “They provided me the opportunity to stay in NL and make a living as an actor, singer, writer and director…It was an atmosphere of friends coming together to create a party with their audiences full of incredible musicianship and a true sense of fun.”

This variety show will feature your favourite characters, songs, shows and a huge lineup of performers. THE BIG SPIRIT REUNION GALA celebrates all that is Spirit of NL, bringing together past and present Spirit performers for a concert event unlike any other.
