New Release for Young Teens Combines Tales of Alaska with a Message of Hope

A nurse who moved to Alaska to work in a children’s home shares her experiences in Alaskan Adventures (Redemption Press 2017). Designed for children and young teens who enjoy adventure stories, Alaskan Adventures by Verna J. Pollock recasts stories based on her experiences while living and working in a children’s home in Juneau, Alaska.

The mother of four and grandmother of seven was inspired to write the book as an avenue to “reach young people with the truth of God’s Word and introduce them to God as the Creator of our wonderful world who is also our helper and Savior.” The Canadian-born, Verna Pollock met and married her husband at the children’s home and now resides in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Using a theme of God’s care and love, Pollock shares ten stories about the young people who lived at Minfield Children’s Home. Pollock says, “I want children and young people to know God loves us everyone and will guide, protect, and help us in every circumstance of life.” Readers will be introduced to kids who want “what all kids want”—love, acceptance, and a stable home. Stories of encounters with a grizzly, a mishap in a cavern full of water in an old gold mine, and a serious fall while hiking on a glacier bring the Alaskan wilderness to life. Lessons on honesty, obedience, the love of God, and His good plans for young lives will encourage faith in God and give hope for the future.
