Platonic is a new mobile application, launched on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter that allows the users to make friends, find people with mutual interests and activity partners around their area. Unlike the traditional dating sites and app that focus mainly on finding a romantic or sexual partner, the goal of Platonic is to enable the user to get out of their comfort zone and expand their social life and eventually make friends, meet people with similar interests, find activity partners and even find their love interest.
The platonic app makes it easier for people to connect with others in real life by using a digital medium. The users can start using the app by signing through their LinkedIn, Facebook or E-mail ID. What makes Platonic truly unique from other dating and social media apps is that it features two different categories namely ‘Active’ or ‘Social’. The Active section offers four “bins”, each dedicated to a specific category: “Team Sports”, “Outdoor Activities”, “Workouts”, and “Crafts and Hobbies” while the Social Section offers bins for “Nightlife”, “Food and Drink”, “Games and Film”, and “Sightseeing”. The users can choose any of the two categories depending on their preference.
After picking a bin, the user can create their personal profile and then view ‘headlines’ of people listed in the same bin. They can create their own headline and let other users find them. The app allows the users to completely personalize their experience and find people who share similar interests, making it easier for them to find a friend, partner in crime or even a date. In both Active and Social categories, there are two more bin options available, the first one is the Pop-Up which is locked until there are sponsored events in the local area while the second option is “Suggest a new bin” by which the user can suggest any improvements to the bins.
Platonic is an app for activity, adventure, and friends. It makes getting social easier than ever. The user can meet up with new people for doing various activities like hiking, trekking, sports etc. or plan an adventurous journey with them. Very soon, Platonic is also introducing the ‘Mutual’ feature created especially for those who’s cynical about meeting total strangers. With this option, the users will be able to connect with people who share ‘mutual connections’ and verified by their own friends.
