New Leaders Council chooses fellows for 2018 in Orlando

Popular leadership development organization, NLC, awards fellowships to outstanding individuals in Orlando.

New Leaders Council is a leadership development organization known for training and producing individuals that subsequently become leaders and influencers in their respective fields. The institution recently announced awarding fellowships to its students in different parts of the country, some of which are Orlando residents. The 2018 NLC fellowship is a rigorous program for young professionals that have demonstrated their leadership qualities and abilities and will mold those skills over the course of the training program held across the U.S. in different cities including Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, New York and St. Louis.

Millennials have been described to be the generation to change the American society. NLC has created its institute to deliver comprehensive training to participants, pairing most participants with existing leaders around the country to help mold these “fellows” into leadership roles. In fact, most NLC alumni go on to become political leaders, community activists and overall highly marketed individuals.

The institute organizes a six-month training program to equip young professionals with the necessary skills to run for office, manage campaigns, create start-ups and networks of thought leaders. Leaders produced by NLC are expected to influence their respective communities and workplaces positively and impact progressive change. Consequently, NLC is predicted to be a major influencer in the United States, with its target audience, the Millennials, soon becoming the largest voting bloc in the history of America, possessing significant economic and political power.

Focused on building a new governing coalition, NLC accepts application from all eligible individuals regardless of their gender. With 48 chapters across the United States and nearly 6,000 alumni that consist of 53 percent women, NLC truly reflects the millennial generation.

The New Leaders Council’s 2018 Fellowship award in the Orlando area include young professionals from different walks of life. Some of the names on the list of chosen fellows for 2018 in Orlando include Jose Luis Abastida, a young man who immigrated from Honduras to Florida at the age of 11 in search for a better life; Jenay Byrd, the Director of Operations for Habitat for Humanity, a national group which builds homes for those in need; Sahil Patel, a 2015 Inc 5000 winner who faced racial discrimination at a young age and devoted his life to fighting for others; Nicole Sims, Assistant Principle at the Orange County Schools spending the last 15 years ensuring quality education for her students. The chosen few are surely on the path to success, each was vetted through a rigorous application and interview process which took over three months.

NLC has an illustrious list of nearly 6,000 alumni that includes the crème de la crème of society. Some of the names on the list are Stacey Chavis, named to Atlanta’s 100 Top Black Women of Power and Ted James, attorney and former advisor to Governor Kathleen Blanco, Elected to the Louisiana State House of Representatives in 2011. In fact, in 2017 alone nearly 20 NLC alumni across the nation were elected to public office positions.
