New York, NY – September 10, 2026 Baal House Books announces the September 13, 2026 release of Heretical Talk, a new horror novel by Beau Lemmerman that crosses six decades of terror to unravel the mystery surrounding a cursed serial killer known only as Needless.
Blending cosmic horror, supernatural terror, apocalyptic events, and questions of faith and human connection, Heretical Talk follows six lives forever altered by encounters with Needless. Those who survive him are left carrying more than physical scars. His words follow them, challenging what they believe about God, existence, and the darkness that may lie beyond everything humanity understands.
The journey moves backward and forward through time as seemingly separate horrors begin revealing their connections. In 1984, a retired trucker and his estranged teenage son arrive on isolated Umbra Island, where an ancient species of demons hides beneath the community’s peaceful exterior. Decades later, a survivor of Needless’ violence becomes an astronaut in the hope of feeling closer to Heaven, only to witness Earth consumed by nuclear Armageddon.
Elsewhere, a quantum physicist discovers an equation capable of opening a dark dimension older than the universe—with catastrophic consequences. A former drug addict preparing to become a nun has her fragile new faith challenged when Needless enters her church seeking confession. A biker gang of outcasts confronts a shapeshifting creature wearing human skin, while an orphaned mental patient must join forces with an imprisoned Needless to battle both a demon inside an asylum and a doctor whose past may hold answers to the horror surrounding them.
At the center of these interconnected stories is a question more unsettling than the monsters themselves: What happens when people searching desperately for God discover something else waiting in the darkness?
Heretical Talk takes readers into a world where faith can provide salvation or become another doorway into uncertainty. Needless leaves his victims searching for a path back to the light, but the farther they travel in search of answers, the closer they come to the void, and the things waiting within it.
The novel combines thematic undertones reminiscent of Mike Flanagan’s Midnight Mass with a mosaic structure similar to Josh Malerman’s Goblin. And brings 1980s horror paperback and VHS nostalgia vibes perfect for fans of John Carpenter and Clive Barker alike.
With Halloween around the corner, this will make an excellent addition to anyone’s horror collection. Just imagine renting a scary movie from Blockbuster on a Friday night and telling your friends about it the next day, and you’ll have Heretical Talk.
Horror readers drawn to ambitious stories involving cosmic dread, demons, serial killers, alternate dimensions, religious horror, science fiction, body horror, and apocalyptic themes will find what they seek in Heretical Talk.
About Beau Lemmerman
Beau Lemmerman describes himself simply as an “Author. Stranger.”
His interest in storytelling began early when, at nine years old, he created and sold fan-fiction comics after purchasing a How to Draw Dragon Ball Z Characters book from a Scholastic book fair. That childhood venture earned him his first forty dollars and marked the beginning of a lifelong interest in creating stories.
Born and raised in Upstate New York, Lemmerman began working as a freelance writer, editor, and photographer shortly after high school, contributing to the local Sentinel & Dispatch and the County Public Market Newsletter. Inspired by figures including Ernest Hemingway, Steve McQueen, and Hunter S. Thompson, he eventually packed his belongings into his Chevy and set out across the country.
His travels led to an unconventional collection of experiences, including work as a bounty hunter and occasional ghostwriter. Today, Lemmerman works full-time as a veterinary biomedical technician helping animals in the Puget Sound region while continuing to write dark and unusual fiction.
He established Baal House Books as an independent press and personal writer’s workshop dedicated to dark and strange fiction, with plans to eventually expand its work into freelance writing and publishing services.
