New children’s book "Drew the Drone" by Alexander Deardorff is released, a military-themed story that teaches readers about making responsible decisions and considering unforeseen consequences

“Drew the Drone” by Alexander Deardorff has been released worldwide. This 24-page, rhyming children’s book, which has achieved Amazon Bestseller status as the #1 Bestseller in the “Aviation” category and the #3 Bestseller in the “Values” category, follows Drew, an Unmanned Ariel Vehicle (UAV) responsible for identifying and observing potential threats. When one such threatening situation arises, Drew must use his better judgment and knowledge of procedure to prevent Priscilla the Predator, a fellow drone keen on eliminating the threat, from attacking the enemy at the cost of innocent lives.

Combining fun illustrations and kid-friendly rhyming language with subtly dark humor that will resonate with adult readers (especially those with military backgrounds), Deardorff’s unique book prompts teachable moments about the nuances of right and wrong. It also teaches kids to think about the consequences of their actions, to observe their surroundings before making decisions, and to consider how one scenario might appear from different points of view.

While the story’s subject matter is serious, the lighthearted tone helps deliver important messages in a way that’s palatable and understandable for children. Themes of patience, perseverance, and communication are important cornerstones, and the underlying humor makes the book a delightful read for audiences of all ages.

Deardorff uses his background as an active duty Army officer to add detail and specificity to the narrative, including technical terminology throughout the story’s clever rhymes that adds weight to the plot. Adventurous and educational, the author has achieved a unique balance of entertainment and insight that introduces young people to complex topics without being overwhelming.

Drew the Drone (ISBN: 9781958729205) can be purchased through retailers worldwide, including Barnes and Noble and Amazon. The paperback retails for $12.99, and the ebook retails for $3.99. Review copies and interviews are available upon request.

From the back cover:

Drew the Drone tells the tale of a stalwart Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) who must use acumen and teamwork to accomplish his mission of preventing an evil enemy from carrying out an attack. When Drew discovers a terrorist base, he requests support and Priscilla the Predator joins his endeavor. But when Priscilla’s overly aggressive justification for striking the enemy conflicts with Drew’s better judgement, he must use empathy to teach his teammate about doing the right thing; ethics and avoiding disproportionate use of force in counterinsurgency.
