Mid-Way Environmental Services Updates About What The EPA Is Doing About PHAS Disposal
Mid-Way Environmental Services highlights the role of EPA in PHAS disposal.

Mid-Way Environmental Services, the reputed non-hazardous liquid waste transportation and disposal service, has offered some insightful facts about the role of EPA in PHAS disposal. The company has developed PFAS waste disposal underground injection well that provides a responsible disposal alternative to the commercial and industrial business sectors.

“Many PFAS compounds are used in some food packaging to make these items resistant to grease and stains,” says the spokesperson for Mid-Way Environment. “They are also used in various manufacturing processes and firefighting foams. Some compounds do not degrade with time and accumulate in the environment and our bodies.”

The role of EPA is crucial in the fight against this menace. They have developed additional toxicity levels, analytical methods for more PFAS and non-drinking water media, and treatment alternatives for PFAS in drinking water, among other tasks.

Earlier, the EPA had convened a National Leadership Summit on PFAS. They had taken the following steps to manage PHAS disposal better.

  • Established methods to measure 14 PFAS compounds in drinking water
  • Identified five treatment processes for PFOA and PFOS and all PFAS chemicals that are legally available for production and use
  • Provided national Monitoring data for 6 PFAS in drinking water
  • Issued drinking water health advisories for PFOA and PFOS in 2016
  • Provided support for ten states with site-specific PFAS challenges and problems

The EPA has also updated its website. It now has details about tools and information to help states, tribes, and local communities understand, assess, and address PFAS incidents and emergencies.

According to experts, there is evidence that PFAS exposure can affect human and animal health adversely.

Ingestion of food and water with PFAS presence can result in its accumulation in the body and remain there for a long time. This can result in significant adverse health effects. Human studies conclusively indicate an increase in cholesterol levels in exposed persons.

Laboratory animals exposed to high amounts of PFOA and PFOS may experience reproductive, developmental, liver, kidney, and immunological abnormalities. Animal studies also show that these substances are linked to cancers.

According to EPS, the following products are more likely to contain PFAS.

  • Pesticides
  • Stain Resistance Products
  • Firefighting Foams
  • Microwave Popcorn Bags
  • Eye Makeup
  • Pizza Boxes
  • Paints, Sealants, and Varnishes
  • Cleaning Products
  • Nail Polish
  • Dental Floss
  • Non-Stick Cookware
  • Water-Resistant Clothing
  • Shampoo
  • Candy Wrappers
  • Fast Food Packaging Wrappers
