Cornelius, NC – Horizon Psychological Services is pleased to announce that Michael R. Youron, M.A., has attained independent licensure as a Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA). The milestone allows Mr. Youron to deliver psychological services independently, expanding access to experienced mental health care for individuals and families across the Lake Norman and Charlotte region.
Mr. Youron brings more than 40 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families in a wide range of settings. Before relocating to the Lake Norman area in 2009, he worked in inpatient psychiatric settings and within the Pennsylvania prison system, and he spent 18 years in private practice with a specialization in children and families. He has a particular strength in supporting adolescent and young adult males and their families.
Throughout his career, Mr. Youron has developed a special interest in working with children and adolescents managing chronic illnesses, such as Type I Diabetes, as well as the families who support them. He also enjoys helping families and couples better understand one another and communicate more effectively. In addition, he has completed advanced training to better serve LGBTQIA+ individuals and those navigating sexual and gender identity concerns.
Mr. Youron uses an eclectic, individualized approach grounded in the belief that every person brings unique experiences and perspectives to the way they engage with the world. He draws on extensive training in cognitive behavioral therapy, critical incident stress management, trauma recovery, and client-centered therapy. He earned his master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and is licensed in both North Carolina and Pennsylvania, allowing him to see clients located in either state.
