Los Angeles, CA – March 15, 2019 – Without a name, you have no voice.
ROCK SALT RELEASING puts a face to human trafficking with upcoming TVOD release of NONA from world-renowned Writer / Director / Cinematographer, Michael Polish (Twin Falls Idaho, Northfork). Executive produced / self-starring, Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns, The Long Road Home), the multi-award winning drama, NONA, showcases the unbound limits a young girl is willing to go for freedom.
“…A visual delight, as well as an emotionally devastating tale of survival against all odds,” wrote Film Threat.
NONA (aka ‘No Name’) follows a young Honduran woman, Nona (Sulem Calderon), who encounters a handsome traveler, Hecho (Jesy McKinney), who offers to rescue her from the homeland’s everyday violence. Promising to arrive safely in America and to reunite with her mother, they journey through the peaceful and rolling hills through Guatemala and Mexico, as Nona gets closer to her new world of family, happiness, opportunity and safety. But only a few countries away, Hecho’s true, sinister intentions are revealed. Nona’s previous idyllic and colorful world becomes completely dark with a blindfold, as she soon realizes that this is not a love story; it’s her worst nightmare, and it’s just beginning.
Reaching the Mexican border, NONA transcends into ultimate darkness as she meets victims, mostly women, from all over the world. Polish’s compelling and powerful narrative strips down to showcase the vulgar, disgusting business and manipulation of sex trafficking. As an intimate and harrowing thriller, NONA puts a face to Central America’s human trafficking industry, provoking messages to change the way the world is dealing with sex trafficking and overall issues of illegal immigration. Raising awareness of universal epidemics, about “roughly 14,500 and 17,500 women are targeted annually in the United States alone,” reported the ACLU.
“It shows moments of levity before and during the worst things that can happen to a young woman. It subverts our perceptions of a victim’s experience, especially through Calderon’s performance,” wrote InTheSeats.
NONA received two US release dates in Los Angeles and New York during Sept. 2017 and Dec. 2018. To honor the film, Kate Bosworth was bestowed with the accolade of the Founder’s Award at the 2018 Richmond International Film Festival. ROCK SALT RELEASING screened NONA at 2019 EFM/Berlinale, kicking off the festival on Feb. 7th (Variety).
ROCK SALT RELEASING will bring NONA to TVOD platforms on March 19th (inDemand, Amazon, DirecTV, Fandango, FlixFling, Vudu, Vimeo on Demand, AT&T, Hoopla and Sling/Dish). Watch the official trailer here: https://vimeo.com/314149141.
