Marlton Golf & Country Club is Being Reimagined Soon

Good news to the golf lovers in the Marlton community: The Marlton is being reimagined soon.

The more than 50-year-old, 162-acre country club, which came under new management in 2022, is set to have a new face and new offers. This is a world-class entertainment and sports community featuring a restaurant incubator, upscale five-star restaurant, amphitheater, cutting-edge driving range, and 18-hole golf course, restored to PGA quality.

There’s a lot to expect, and enthusiastic golfers are urged to be on the lookout. Marlton Golf Course & Country Club is the 4th Black American-owned county club and golf course out of the 15,000 county clubs and golf courses in the entire country.

In addition to the features mentioned, this club boasts four modern sound stages with live streaming abilities, recording studios, dancing water lakes and ponds, paddle boats, hiking and walking trails, a cigar lounge, spa and a health and wellness center, among others.

“The Marlton has a rich history in the beautiful Prince George’s County southern region,” says one of the Marlton Golf Club senior representatives.

Even the most experienced players will require great accuracy to conquer Marlton Golf Club’s tight tree-lined fairways. This is especially what makes this club the number one choice for golfers. The golf course’s driving lane offers both grass tees and a matted station to add to the fun.

As one of the club owners put it, “Marlton has taken on the charm of a course that has evolved around timeless nature.”

This club and the land on which it sits have a rich history. The original owners of the land on which the country club is built were members of the famous Clagett-Hil family. Originally, in the 19th century, it was a Woodstock farm covering an area of 379 acres. In 1890, the Clagett-Hill Tobacco Barn was built on this farm, and it remained under the ownership of the Clagett-Hill family for 70 years (up to 1968).

In 1960, the farm was transferred to speculative developers Mark Ritchie and Orville. About eight (8) years later, the farm was repurposed into a country club. The golf course was closed for many years. It was opened in 1996 after a full re-design by Ault-Clark Associates. The golf course became fully operational in 1998 when it was officially reopened.
