HOUSTON – Christy Harper, one of the Managing Partners for End to End User Research was awarded Mentor of the Year at the Human Factors Ergonomics Society (HFES) International Symposium, October 6, 2021. HFES is a group dedicated to advancing the science and practice of designing products and systems for people through knowledge, exchange, collaboration, and advocacy.
The mentor of the year award is sponsored by HFE Women’s Organization for Mentoring and Networking (WOMAN) which is an affinity group within HFES that connects women in the field. Christy was awarded Mentor of the Year, an award that recognizes outstanding contributions made by an individual in mentorship and professional advancement for women in HFE field.
The award process consists of a review and comparison of the submission packet which includes a resume, letters of support and an application letter which includes quotes from mentees and a summary of outstanding contributions to the development of women in the field. Dr. Nicholas Kelling, the director of the Applied Human Factors graduate program at the University of Houston Clear Lake (UHCL), said of Ms. Harper, “The success of our program and more importantly of our students is in direct relationship to her involvement. Should you be able to speak with our alumni of the past ten years, I would wager you would not find one that does not list her as an invaluable mentor.”
Ms. Harper holds a MA degree from UHCL, where she is a Distinguished Alumna. She serves as Chairperson of their Applied HF Program, is a guest lecturer, student advisor and project leader, Women in STEM panelist and mentor. For HFES she is the Chapter Committee Co-chair and is heavily involved in the Houston chapter of HFES, where she is Past President and Program Director. End to End User Research is a women owned business that conducts human factors and UX research, provides usability labs, focus group and mock jury rooms for rent in Houston and does participant recruiting for all types of research projects.
