Loree’s Brawny Boy Brings a Powerful Story of Family, Nature, and Legacy to Readers

A heartfelt narrative set in a Christmas tree nursery explores growth, responsibility, and the quiet strength of nature.

Oregon, United States – Richard Field has released Loree’s Brawny Boy, a reflective and immersive narrative that takes readers into the daily life of a family-run Christmas tree nursery in the Pacific Northwest. Set along the Cascade Range, the story captures the rhythm of rural life while exploring deeper themes of responsibility, growth, and connection to the land.

The book follows Loree Clark, a recent forestry graduate returning home to join her family’s nursery business. As she transitions into a leadership role, she begins to see the nursery not just as a workplace, but as a living system shaped by patience, care, and long-term vision.

Her journey reflects the challenges of stepping into responsibility while honoring a legacy built over generations.

A central element of the story is Loree’s connection with a remarkable Noble fir tree she

names Brawny. What begins as admiration develops into a meaningful bond. Over time, the tree becomes a symbol of resilience, standing strong through changing seasons and offering shelter to wildlife. Through Brawny, the narrative highlights the quiet strength found in nature and the impact of consistent care.

The story also provides insight into the work behind a familiar tradition. From planting and trimming to harvesting and shipping, the nursery’s operations reveal the years of dedication required to grow a single Christmas tree. The result is a grounded and authentic portrayal of both the land and the people who depend on it.

“This story grew slowly over time, much like the trees themselves,” said Richard Field. “It reflects the people I met, the places I experienced, and the respect I developed for that way of life.”

Loree’s Brawny Boy is a thoughtful and engaging read that will resonate with those who appreciate stories rooted in nature, family, and personal growth.

About the Author

Richard Field began developing this story during his ten years working in Oregon, where his travels took him from Northern California to Washington State and even to the Alaska Peninsula. Inspired by the people he met and the landscapes he experienced, the idea for the story first took shape in the 1990s. Influenced in part by a family background that included a grandmother who was a librarian and genealogy researcher, Field carried the story with him for years. He first began writing it in the early 2000s, but it remained unfinished for nearly two decades. In retirement, he returned to those early notes and brought the story to life, shaping it into the narrative readers see today.
