Marian L. Thomas, a local Atlanta award-winning author of the newly released book The Caged Butterfly, will be one of the guests featured on Atlanta’s CBS TV Station CW69. The community affairs program, Focus Atlanta, will air on December 9, 2018, at 12 pm, and is hosted by Keisha Lancelin, who is also the Public Affairs Director at CW69. Ms. Thomas will speak on one of the central themes within her book — the alarming skin bleaching trends in the African-American community.
“It was a privilege to have an opportunity to speak on a platform such as the one that Focus Atlanta offers. It’s a program that not only shows the support that WUPA provides to the community, but it also shows their interest in issues that affect the community,” said Marian.
The Caged Butterfly, creatively tells the fictional tale of three characters that must navigate the rocky terrains of life in search of love, forgiveness, and identity. One of the main characters, Nina Taylor — is a young and talented young woman that becomes convinced that having white skin is the only option to making it successfully in the entertainment industry. This misguided belief plunges her into the dangerous world of skin bleaching.
“At the very core of Nina Taylor’s story, lies a young woman with a dangerous obsession that has become an authentic reality for some in the Black community today,” Thomas stated.
The Caged Butterfly is available on all major retail sites such as Amazon and Books-A-Million. It is also available for order at any of the Barnes & Noble bookstores.
