Leasing by Vecna Robotics Provides a Tax Advantage

Leasing a Vecna Robotics’ automated guided vehicle, provides tax advantages. Under accounting rules, an operating lease is a tax-deductible overhead expense and lease payments are deducted from corporate income. Also, leased equipment does not have to be depreciated over years.

Section 179, one of the most important tax codes, allows manufacturers to deduct all (or part) of the cost of equipment that is leased and put into place before the end of the year. The only stipulation is that the equipment needs to qualify for deduction. The current Section 179 tax deduction limit is $500,000 on qualifying equipment, and the phase-out is $2 million. This was enacted through the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act (PATH) that was signed into law in December 2015. In addition, the bill allows businesses to depreciate 40 percent of the cost of eligible leased equipment in 2018 and 2019.
