LAKESIDE ROLLS OUT NEW “FLEX” HOME SCHOOL PROGRAM AVAILABLE TO K-8 STUDENTS

Igniting Passion in Today’s Students for Tomorrow’s Opportunities!

This school year, as always, brought bright faces to a new year with hopes of learning, living, and growing. To provide even more learning options for students, the Lakeside Union School District introduced a new Home Flex program for the 2019-2020 school year. This program is a unique and personalized home school experience for Kindergarten to 8th grade that builds on student strengths, critical thinking, creativity, and communication for all learners.

LUSD’s Home Flex program provides more learning options than most traditional home school programs. The District is providing each student a curriculum allocation of $2,000, giving parents over 25 specialized curriculum choices, which include foreign language options in Spanish and Mandarin. Students are also welcome and encouraged to continue to participate in on-campus activities for 1, 2, or 3 days per week which includes options like: core and enrichment group instruction, career exposure, environmental science field work, exciting field trips, and performing arts options like choir, musical theater, and instrumental music.

Home Flex provides the academic opportunities offered through Lakeside Union School District schools with the flexibility some students (and parents) desire rather than attend 5 on campus traditional school days each week. With a Home Flex classroom based at Riverview International Academy, Home Flex provides 1 on 1 support from the home school teacher, Monica Farren, who is available remotely and in person to help students in all areas of academics. Mrs. Farren says she is “continually inspired by [her students’] creative minds and huge hearts” and is really looking forward to this year.

Not all students learn at the same pace or thrive in the same environment. Home Flex allows students to work faster on topics and subjects they are more comfortable with, while allowing them to work through subjects they find more difficult with the assistance of a classroom teacher, who continually supports the parent and student. Customize your student’s educational experience and register for Lakeside’s Home Flex program today, where students can even participate in on-campus electives at the elementary and middle schools (6-8th).
