Spearheaded by the brand icon Mashable, June 30 has been deemed as the day where people from the locality celebrate the contributions and impact social media platforms have had in their lives. Mashable organized the event alongside other brand names such as BBR Creative, Opportunity Machine, and other agencies in the Acadiana Area.
The event aims to teach businesses on how to use the social media in promoting their retail businesses to increase sales and exposure.
According to the BBR Creative’s website, “Social Media Day Lafayette provides agencies and organizations around Acadiana a forum to join together and educate the community – while honoring the media that connects us.”
The 2017 Social Media Day Lafayette hosted various activities such as seminars, workshops, and various networking activities. All of which were free of charge and open to the public. The event took place at the Opportunity Machine located in the LITE Center in Lafayette, at 537 Cajundome Boulevard.

- Social Media Automationby Rodney Hess, Vice President of Rally Marketing who talked about the automation of online marketing
- 5 Social Media Trashfires and How to Avoid Them by Cory Lagrange and Kirstie Watkins, both from BBR Creative both of whom talked about common mistakes committed by businesses online
- How to Turn One Hour into One Year of Content by Katie Domas which was about online content scheduling and posting
- Workshop: Lessons Learned from a Nonprofit Social Media Admin by Samantha Baldridge from Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette
- and much more
“What we’re doing,” according to Corey LaGrange, a Digital Marketing Strategist at BBR Creative, “is we’re offering a day full of instructional and educational classes. What we really want to teach, is that social media doesn’t have to be scary, and it can be a very viable and inexpensive marketing and advertising tool,”
“It can be a really powerful tool, and the more people we have effectively using it, the more users we’ll have, and the more people we can reach for business,” added LaGrange.
The local government of Lafayette has recognized the validity of the event itself. No other than the Mayor of Lafayette, Joel Robideaux officially proclaimed that June 30 as “Social Media Day.”
According to a research on social media and internet use, at least 46% of internet users utilize social media and other internet platforms when making purchases. The popularity of e-commerce or the use of the internet in dealing businesses and transaction has made everyday lives easier and helped many businesses prosper.
