Fort Dodge, IA – La’ James International College (LJIC), in collaboration with Iowa Central Community College (ICCC), is proud to offer a dual-credit cosmetology program designed primarily for high school juniors and seniors interested in exploring a future career in cosmetology. The program provides students with the opportunity to begin college-level cosmetology coursework while still in high school, at no cost to the student.
Although this program is primarily for high school juniors and seniors, enrollment may also be available to other people interested in cosmetology, depending on eligibility and availability.
College-Level Cosmetology Courses and Credits
Students enrolled in the program will complete two ICCC-accredited cosmetology courses, earning college credits that apply toward a future Cosmetology program.
COS108: Theory of Hair and Hair Care Services I
This introductory course provides a strong foundation in the creative and professional field of cosmetology. Students learn the fundamentals of hair, hair care, and salon services while gaining early exposure to career preparation skills. The course includes comprehensive classroom instruction, weekly labs, virtual guest speakers, and hands-on campus visits at La’ James International College. Students are also introduced to basic retailing and professional product recommendation skills essential for success in the salon industry.
COS109: Theory of Hair and Hair Care Services II
Building on the first course, COS109 focuses on core cosmetology services including haircutting, hairstyling, hair color, and chemical texture services. Students learn to differentiate between chemical and non-chemical services while developing foundational business skills such as retailing, referrals, and rebooking to support long-term professional success.
Hands-On Training and Campus Experience
The program includes three on-campus visits at La James International College, all scheduled on Thursdays, where students will participate in guided, hands-on training in a professional cosmetology school environment.
Textbooks, Kits, and Uniforms Provided
All required textbooks and kit items needed for weekly lab work will be provided through La James’ International College. Students will also receive surprise goody bags as part of the program.
